A Busy Week On The Green!

There is always something happening on the Green at Saint Patrick Catholic School, but this week was especially busy!

Each year from September 15 to October 15, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. At Saint Patrick, we celebrated as a Wolfhound community with our very own Fiesta Latina on Thursday, October 3! Students and parents with “passports'' in hand took a tour around the Green and explored the uniqueness of a variety of Latin and South American countries. Attendees sampled culinary delights, enjoyed music, made crafts, and viewed special performances by the Panamanian Folkloric Group of Hampton Roads and Mis Raíces Bailan Folkloric! Thank you to Spanish teachers, Sra. Mueller, Sra. Avila, and Sr. Burke for organizing the festivities and to everyone who joined us for this special celebration. We were overwhelmed by the turnout! Gracias!

After dancing the night away at Fiesta Latina, we gathered once again on the morning of Friday, October 4, for the twentieth annual Blessing of the Animals. This event is held in celebration of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1180 – 1226) - patron saint of animals and the environment and transforms Saint Patrick into a literal zoo! Students and parents gathered on the Green with their pets - including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, lizards, and even a rat! School Chaplain and Rector of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Father Jim Curran blessed each and every one of our four-legged, fluffy, feathered, scaly, and stuffed friends of all shapes and sizes.

The Green is more than just a central location on campus; it is often at the center of our collective growth in the Life of Relationship. And with a Middle School Movie Night and Halloween Dance coming up later this month, there is a lot more fun to be had. From PreK play in the morning, parent parties, and alumni reunions to bounce houses and dunk tanks on Field Day, the Green is where Wolfhounds come together as one big Saint Patrick Catholic School community.
