On Thursday, January 9, our Fourth Grade students embarked on a thrilling journey to Jamestown, stepping back in time to experience the trials and triumphs of the original English settlers. With temperatures a frigid 24 degrees during their 9:00 a.m. tour, these young historians gained firsthand insight into the harsh conditions faced by the early colonists.
The day's itinerary was packed with exciting stops, including the museum, the reconstructed English fort, the Powhatan Village, and—always a favorite—the gift shop! Unlike the settlers who endured relentless hardships, our students had the comfort of a warm meal at the Jamestown Café to refuel for their continued exploration.
In preparation for this adventure, the Fourth Grade students immersed themselves in Jamestown history. Their studies culminated in an interactive Jamestown Escape Room the day before their field trip, where students used decoders to unravel four challenging clues about the colony's fascinating past. These activities equipped them with a deeper appreciation of Jamestown's significance and the perseverance of its people.
This field trip was an unforgettable experience, blending history, adventure, and a bit of frostbite!
