Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education Contest Awards
On Wednesday, March 26, Mrs. Kollette Hillard and Dr. Denise Davis of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas joined us at Chapel to present awards to students at Saint Patrick Catholic School who were recognized for their stellar work in the recent, local Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education Contest.
Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. Founded in 1903 by the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters has flourished under the motto of “Unity and Charity.” In addition to sponsoring the annual Education Contest, the Court of the Holy Spirit #2145 supports local charities such as St. Mary’s Food Pantry, Kennedy’s Angel Gowns, and Catholic Charities.
This year’s contest theme was “He who forgives an offense seeks love.” (Proverbs 17:9) or How do I feel when I forgive? Students were encouraged to express one of the themes through their submissions of essays, poetry, music, art, computer art, and photography. Catholic Daughters of the Americas received more than 100 entries from local schools and the top three winners in each category were selected for an award. Each of the submissions by the first place winners of this local contest have been forwarded to the state level.
Our Wolfhound students made a strong showing and received certificates during the presentation! *Some category winners are not listed as they attend other schools.
